Our U3A

In September 2001 a meeting of over 90 Third-Agers met to discuss the formation of a new U3A branch and seven volunteered their services as group leaders.

The First quarterly newsletter was issued early in 2002 and within a year membership had grown to around 200. This level of membership has been maintained and there are now a score of active groups.

At the core of our U3A activities, the members’ meeting is held on the first Thursday of each month. Commencing at 2 p.m, in Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church Hall on Station Road, this serves a valuable social function in bringing all the Groups together. Since U3A Learning and Activity Groups are independent co-operatives, the monthly meeting provides an opportunity for the Committee and Group Leaders to make announcements and pass on information to the membership as a whole. The monthly meeting has also brought us guest speakers on a wide range of interesting subjects.
